Mercedes-Benz Actros (MP4 / MP5)
The Actros has been Europe's best-selling heavy truck for several years running. The MP4 and MP5 generations introduced the MirrorCam (camera-based mirrors on the MP5), Predictive Powertrain Control, and best-in-class aerodynamics. The OM471 engine (up to 530hp) is known for durability and relatively low fuel consumption.
Strengths: build quality, fuel efficiency, strong dealer network, excellent cab insulation
Weaknesses: electronics-heavy (complex diagnostics), higher parts cost in markets with no official Daimler presence
MAN TGX (Euro 5 / Euro 6)
The MAN TGX is mechanically robust and well-regarded by fleet mechanics. Its D26 engine is one of the simplest to work on among modern Euro 5/6 trucks. MAN's TipMatic gearbox is reliable and responds well across varied terrain.
Strengths: mechanical simplicity, lower parts cost, strong resale value in Eastern Europe, excellent for mixed conditions
Weaknesses: cab comfort slightly behind Actros; older interior design on pre-2021 models

For markets where authorized service centers are close: Actros edges ahead on fuel savings. For markets where independent mechanics are the norm: MAN TGX wins on maintainability and parts cost.
